Last night we all went out for tea. Teish wanted Chinese and made reservations at a Chinese place in Ballarat. After we all finally got there (which was a huge hassle trying to figure out who was riding in what car because most people don't have their full license and can only have one other person in the car), we all sat down. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. There were only two other tables with people at them in the whole, rather nice looking restaurant. After at least 20 minutes, someone came out to take our orders which turned into a huge ordeal since our waitress barely spoke English. About 15 minutes after placing our orders, our drinks came out. Well, some of the drinks came out. A few minutes later, after flagging down a waiter and asking, the rest of the drinks came out. Then, we played the waiting game again for who knows how long until apps started to trickle out. Nothing was served together the entire night. It was like the kitchen only had one cook who was pushing out one dish at a time and that's when they brought it. Main dishes came out the same way, one-by-one. The waitress never came out to check on us or see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Every now and then, I would see someone peek out from around the corner and glance 15 meters across the room at our table, but that was as good as the service got.
No one enjoyed their hugely overpriced food. No one.
Our group took up two tables and when my table left, the other table still hadn't been served. After leaving, we all went to McDonalds to get food that we at least knew would be consistent. When we arrived back at the unit, the other table was still 30 minutes behind us.
I had deep fried scallops (where were small and a little rubbery but had good flavor) and Mongolian beef, which tasted overwhelmingly of ginger and oil.
Needless to say, we will not be going back and Teish will not be picking any restaurants for us in the future.
When in Rome....do you know how the rest of that saying goes? ...do as the Romans do. When in AU, eat kangaroos and save the Asian food for Hong Kong! ;)
