Yes. It's still raining. And, no, I still don't have an umbrella or rain jacket.
But it's okay. I like the rain. I like running through the rain with all the guys from my unit as we make our way to tea or to the flagpoles to catch a taxi. I like walking in the rain like I'm not in a hurry.
I haven't been in a hurry for anything since I've been here. I'm simply not in a hurry. Not in a hurry to get rich or die or do my laundry or get to the club or go to tea or make tea or go to the bank or go into town or wash the plate that's sitting on my desk from last night. I'm not in a hurry to charge my phone or download new music or go to the gym. I'm in the slow lane and I'm totally okay with it.
I had something like three dreams last night. That's about average. It's weird, it's like I'm catching up on all the dreams I never had in the US. I might have had a dream a week back home. But here, I'm feeling tired when I wake up because it feels like I never went to bed. I just went off on a ship to get framed for losing some sort of manifesto and we can't dock without it and I only have three days to find it or they'll kill me. Something like that. But I had my first dream about AU last night. I had a dream I was in a hotel, having beers with Ashman and Canada (those are two guys from our sister unit).
I cooked tea for everyone last night. I made lasagna, tomato-basil risotto and garlic bread. I was literally running from our unit to the next one, cooking in both kitchens. Everyone loved it and people were literally licking their plates when they were done. I had a Chardonnay by Rosemount Estate with dinner. It was good. I also challenged one of the RA's to a cookoff on the 25th. I'm excited. I don't know what I'll make but I've been thinking about stuffed mushrooms or mushroom canapes for a starter or maybe that risotto. I might do a wellington for the main course or maybe a rack of lamb. For dessert I'm pretty set on making a cheesecake. White chocolate, with a raspberry sauce. But knowing myself I'll probably change the menu 15 times before I settle on something.
Today I slept in, ate cereal, showered, listened to American Psycho, choked on some water, complimented Teish's hair, tried to do my washing but all the machines were full, and wrote this entry.
I think I put too much cheese in the cheese sauce last night.
This is Ashman. Yes, these antics happen regularly.
Alex and Teish took my camera while I was cooking. I didn't notice.
Lasagna, tomato-basil risotto, and garlic bread. Get amongst it!
The next person to see my brother, give him a hug for me.
Take care guys,
~Daniel
